It is that time of the year where your local police team take part in Operation Sceptre as explained below.

Operation Sceptre: Week of 18th - 24th May 2026

Operation Sceptre is a national police initiative aimed at reducing knife crime and serious violence.

It runs regularly across the UK and involves coordinated action by police forces to:

Remove knives and dangerous weapons from the streets

Tackle people who carry and use knives

Educate communities about the dangers and consequences of knife crime

During periods of Operation Sceptre, you may see increased police activity in your area, including:

High-visibility patrols in public areas

Stop and search activity where appropriate

Weapon sweeps in locations where knives may be hidden

Community engagement with schools, youth groups, and local residents

Police also work with partners such as local authorities, schools, and charities to raise awareness and prevent offending.

Why it matters?

Carrying a knife puts everyone at risk, including the person carrying it.

You are more likely to be injured yourself

It can lead to serious criminal charges

It has devastating effects on families and communities

Your local police team have carried out robbery patrols, stop and searches and weapon sweeps.
